Our Story
ButtonPreferred was founded on a singular belief — that the modern African woman deserves clothing made with the same reverence as the world's great couture houses, in fabrics, colours and silhouettes that speak to her heritage. From a single sketch in Lagos in 2008 to a maison that now dresses women across four countries, our north star has never changed: elegance, confidence, and craftsmanship that outlives the moment.
Our Philosophy
Every ButtonPreferred piece begins with a question — how will she feel, when she wears this? From the weight of the embellishment to the fall of the hem, every decision is made in service of the woman who will wear it: to her daughter's wedding, to a presidential dinner, to the front pew on a Sunday morning, to the boardroom on a Monday.
The Craft
Our master tailors, beaders and aso-oke weavers have, between them, more than two centuries of combined craft. Each kaftan, dress and two-piece is hand-finished in our Lagos atelier — there are no shortcuts, and there is no machine that can replicate what they do with thread, crystal and gold.
